She is the founder and executive director of the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network (HLLN) since 1994 and the Free Haiti Movement in 2004. Attorney Dantò was a lawyer and legal consultant for the first democratically elected Haiti president. She is an award-winning playwright, a Vodun Jazzoetry performance poet, a master Haiti dance choreographer and executive director at Zili Dlo, a clean water, skills transfer and solar power for Haiti project. Èzili Dantò was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in the United States. She devotes the majority of her time giving voice to the voiceless and correcting the media lies and colonial narratives about Haiti. Dantò writes research pieces on a range of international, justice and cultural issues. But her writings are most popular and economically valued when there is a major crisis in Haiti. For the last 25 years, she’s been the steadiest international voice on Haiti, continually writing after the media goes home. Èzili Dantò is member of both the New York and Connecticut bars. Before her Haiti work, she was an entertainment attorney representing Grammy award R&B and Hip Hop artists in the music and film industry. Dantò is a regular commentator and news analysis guest on over 22 radio and TV programs, serving communities in the US, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. She is oftentimes quoted in the New York Times, Washington Post, HuffPost and other major media outlets on international and human rights issues and her writings exposing the illegality and immorality the West forces on Haiti and First World peoples through its Neoliberal, imperialistic policies.
